Tips to keep cool without air-con
1: Just add water: Soak a t-shirt in the sink, wring it out and then put it on. The relief is almost immediate and can last up to an hour. Dont want to do that, then try soaking your feet in a bucket of cold water. 2: Sweat it out: Water vapour produced by your body actually takes heat away from your body. Best thing to do is sit your sweaty self in front of a fan or cool breeze. 3: Dress (or undress) for the heat: if you are outside, wear natural fabrics (cotton, silk, linen) rather than polyester or other artificial fabrics. Also, dont wear dark colours because they absorb the sun's rays.
4: Get the air flowing: In the arvo, turn on your fan and open your windows. This will help to create a cross breeze and circulate the cool air. No fan? Then keep your blinds closed all day so the sun doesnt heat up your room 5: Cool as a cucumber!: Slice a thin piece of cucumber from the fridge and place it in the middle of your forehead. Feels great and almost works immediately. 6: Eat spicy food: Spicy (hot to the taste) food increases perspiration which cools the body as it evaporates. It can also cause an endorphin rush that is quite pleasant and might make you forget about the heat. 7: Use a hint of mint: try a few minty or menthol products to cool your skin. Shower with peppermint soap or lather your skin in a peppermint lotion. Mint refreshes the skin and leaves a nice cooling sensation. 8: Think Cool: Watch March of the Penguins or Ice Age, maybe even read books about climbing Mt Everest. You might not be physically cooler, but if your mind envisions a cold environment, you might feel a bit cooler. 9: Sit Still: Do not try and fan yourself because it will only make you hotter. 10: Pool hopping: A great summer activity. Just hang at your mate's house who has a pool and this will be sure to cool you down.
